Duke University Professor of Anesthesiology
Stuart graduated from the University of Glasgow, Scotland MB ChB in 1989 and trained in Anaesthesia in Glasgow before taking an appointment in the Department of Anesthesiology at Duke University in 2002. He is now Chief of the Division of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He has multiple publications on the use of regional anesthesia in major joint replacement, and in ambulatory surgery. He serves on the CME committee, and directs the free standing courses for the American Society of Regional Anesthesia. He was awarded the Golden Apple for best clinical instructor at Duke Medical School and teacher of the year in the Department of Anesthesiology twice. His textbook “Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia” for Oxford University Press is now in its second edition. He is long retired from Lenzie Rugby Club and a self confessed bad golfer. Stuart is married to Carol Ann and they have 3 daughters.
